Catechetical Correspondence
Courses - Family Faith Development in the Home.
These programs are available for children from
Kindergarten through to High School. They are intended for children not
currently receiving religious instruction in a school setting. These programs
may be beneficial to families wishing to engage in faith development as
well. For more information contact Carol at the Diocesan Office for Ministry,
Family and Religious Education by calling 905-528-7988, ext. 2238 or see
the website www.hamiltondiocese.com
. Registration forms are available in our Parish Office. Registration forms
may also be downloaded from the above web site. An August registration is
prefered for a September start, but registration can be completed at other
times as well.
These programs are the same courses formerly offered by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD
This program, based on Montessori principles, educates young children about the essential truths and teachings of our faith. Catechists (adult leaders) are needed and require substantial training in the method. Many other hands are also needed -with expertise in woodworking, sewing, crafts and printing- to make the wide variety of beautiful materials for this program. Children from 3 to 9 years of age are invited to register: Level 1 ages 3-6, Level 2 ages 6-9.
CHILDREN'S SUNDAY LITURGY
During the 11 am Mass, there are two programs offered for families with young children.
Ages 3 to SK:
Friends of Jesus Children's
Program
This is a program which conveys the message of Jesus to children, ages 3
through Grade 4, through lectionary-based catechesis using age-appropriate
activities. Any materials are provided free of charge. Registration is required
by contacting one of the co-ordinators. Screening
of volunteers is required.
Grades 1 to 4:
Children’s Liturgy
Adults lead children in an age-appropriate Liturgy of the Word (including
song, gospel, reflection and prayer) in the Community Room. They are called
forth at the same time as the younger children and return to the assembly
during the presentation of the gifts. Some preparation is necessary and
planning meetings are held to assist leaders. Training and screening
are required. Assistants are needed to help with various tasks and young
teens are welcome for this role.
